Dr. Marian de Souza

Dr Marian de Souza is a Senior Lecturer at Australian Catholic University and the Editor of the Journal of Religious Education. She previously spent many years as a Curriculum Coordinator and taught Music, Drama, English, History and Religious Education in secondary schools.

Marian has published extensively about her research into the spirituality of young people and the implications for education. She has developed an approach to learning to teach across the curriculum which draws on different concepts of intelligence: rational, emotional and spiritual, and recognises the complementarity of the cognitive, affective and spiritual dimensions of learning. The approach recognises that multi-sensory learning provides different kinds of experiences and memories which generate more holistic learning. The process involves perceiving, thinking, feeling and intuiting. Ultimately, the aim is to promote meaning and connectedness which should, potentially, lead to transformative learning.
